Privacy policy

This policy covers Bored Fox Club’s GN輸入法 iPhone app and keyboard extension. Browsing our website and using its contact form are covered separately by the BFC website privacy policy.

Typing and local storage

GN spelling, candidates and Cantonese/GN conversion run on your device. GN does not automatically upload your typed or converted text to Bored Fox Club or maintain a cloud typing history. The bundled lexicon and core typing work offline. Text entered into another app is subject to that app’s policies.

The app and keyboard store settings, themes, favourite phrases, downloaded content, purchase unlock status in their own or shared App Group storage. Quiz results exist only for the current round; new scores and mastery records are not saved after leaving. Bounded local diagnostic records contain technical event timing, action categories and audio/loading state, but no typed text or audio recordings. GN does not automatically upload these records. Older records rotate out; iOS may clear caches. We receive support information only if you choose to provide it.

Settings and practice records retained from older versions remain until cleared or the app is deleted. System backup and restoration depend on your iOS settings. Deleting the app does not erase Apple’s purchase records; eligible purchases can be restored after reinstalling.

Optional on-device candidate learning

Remember My Choices is off by default. When enabled, GN stores only the spelling, selected candidate, selection count and last-used time for candidates you explicitly tap and successfully insert. These records rank candidates for the same spelling. GN does not scan conversations or learn from pastes, dictation, URL/email/numeric fields or automatic space-key commits. Records are not uploaded to Bored Fox Club or the public CloudKit lexicon.

Records stay in local App Group storage. Full Access is needed to share settings and clearing controls between the app and keyboard; without it, core typing still works and the keyboard neither reads nor adds learning records. At most 500 choices are kept. Records unused for 120 days are removed on the next load or selection. You can disable learning or use Clear Learning History in the app. Disabling stops personalized ranking and new records; clearing deletes existing learning data. System backups remain subject to your iOS settings.

Apple services and sharing

The main app downloads developer-published vocabulary, phrases and stickers from Apple’s public CloudKit database. Requests do not include your keyboard text. Apple still processes technical information needed to provide its network services.

If paid packs are offered, Apple StoreKit/App Store handles payment and restoration. GN uses transaction and entitlement status to unlock content and does not receive your card details. System dictation is handled by Apple under your settings; GN does not independently record or upload microphone audio. Quiz prompts use prerecorded clips or system speech playback. Apple’s services are governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Copying or exporting a sticker transfers the selected content to the system clipboard or WhatsApp only when you request that action. The receiving service applies its own policies.

Access and choices

Allow Full Access enables shared App Group content/settings and certain custom sound features. Core typing remains available without it. You may disable Full Access or remove GN in iOS keyboard settings and adjust key sounds/haptics in the app. This permission does not cause GN to upload what you type.

The app reads enabled input modes locally for its setup guidance; it does not upload the keyboard list. Ordinary users do not need a GN account. GN has no advertising or behavioural analytics integration. Functional libraries include KeyboardKit; we do not provide keyboard text for advertising tracking. The developer’s Apple-authenticated content administration website is separate from ordinary app use.

For privacy enquiries, use the Bored Fox Club contact page. Avoid including passwords or unnecessary private conversations in support requests. We update this page and its date when our features or data handling change.
